New Website Outs Companies With Poor Corporate Responsibility Records

I like buying from companies that stick to socially and environmentally responsible business practices.
The new catch phrase is called “greening my life.”
Whatever.
I just want big business to care. And sometimes they need a little nudging to do that.
Otherwise, I can drive my Prius until the cows come home, and I’ll still never make up for what an irresponsible corporation can do to demolish the planet in 1 day.
But how do I find out which companies are earning their green hat? Green-washing, or making false green business practice claims, is rampant. It isn’t always easy to find out what’s really happening behind the corporate facade. These companies aren’t exactly forthcoming with this information, you know?
But CO-OP America has recently made it easier for me to track corporate business practices.
They’ve launched Responsible Shopper, a website -
“that provides you with the real story about abuses by well-known companies, gives you actions to promote corporate responsibility, and helps you green your life and world.”
The website contains reports on hundreds of large well known companies. I can search them by:
- company - for direct reference, or by
- industry - where I can “quickly compare corporate responsibility records” between competing businesses.
Now, armed with knowledge, I go forth, wallet in hand, ready to do battle with the forces of evil - or at least the deluge of false marketing claims hitting me at every turn.
It’s a David and Goliath scenario.
But if enough of us Davids start throwing our coins in the green buckets, more businesses will want to join the green team.
That’s a good thing. And me, the little guy, can help make it happen.
Charge!!!!
