About the picture: Constructed in 1999, the London Eye Ferris Wheel is the most visited tourist site in the UK. It had 3 million visitors in 2007. It is the largest wheel in Europe, standing in at 135 meters (443 feet). Sir Richard Rogers wrote: “The eye has done for London, what the Eiffel Tower has done for France.”

I went on the London Eye a few months ago with friends. I’d sort of forgotten that I suffer from fear of heights. It wasn’t that much fun, but I didn’t want to admit it, so I had to pretend that I really could see perfectly well sitting down in the middle of the car
