Recession R Us
The recession is affecting us all, some more than others. Here’s how I’m feeling it:
1) My 401K value has dropped over 12 % in the last 6 months- I didn’t want to retire anyway. I’ve read so many articles in the papers about not panicking over the volatile market, that I’m now panicking. It’s highly likely I’ll be postponing my golden years, or at least flipping a few burgers at McDonalds.
2) My savings account interest rate has dropped over 2% since last summer- Lowering the interest rates may be good for the banks, but it’s not good for my savings account.
3) Finally, there’s the “nickeled and dimed” effect: inflation nibbling at my paycheck like circling piranha. Heating fuel, gas, groceries, taxes, Pete’s** dog food, all up.
But really, other than possibly postponing retirement a few years, I’m fine. Hey, no big deal. I’m getting off easy compared to others dealing with foreclosure, lay-offs, and the like. There’s still plenty of ice cream in my freezer. Maybe not as much money in my bank account, but really, I’m feeling pretty lucky.
Just don’t let me hear that Exxon-Mobil has had another record profit this quarter.
How has the recession personally affected you?
**- for new readers, Pete is my Yorkshire Terrier.
