Super Bowl Used 100% Green Power
I found this article a little late, but I thought it was worth posting. It is from the US Department of Energy’s Green Power Network website.
Super Bowl to Use 100% Green Power
Salt River Project (SRP) announced that it will provide green power for 100% of the electricity needs of Super Bowl XLII. Under the agreement, SRP will supply renewable energy for the game at the University of Phoenix Stadium as well as the NFL Experience Football Theme Park. In addition, the Fox Broadcasting Company, which will broadcast the game, will purchase renewable energy for two hotels where the network will be hosting individuals participating in the event. The National Football League and the Arizona Super Bowl XLII Host Committee also announced that they are working with local, state and national partners to plant trees on 96 acres of land devastated by recent wild fires in an effort to green the event.
Did you know that many states now offer easy ways for individual households to purchase green power? The Green Network identifies which states offer programs: Link. Here in Massachusetts, my spouse and I purchase 60% of our electricity as wind power. It costs us about 10% more ($8-$10) per month. The purchase is tax deductible.
This comes out of the “donations” line item on our budget.
It’s like buying our own windmill!
